Summers Last Hurrah!

Dave and I took advantage of Labor Day weeked to take a trip for ourselves, our granola selves. We took off for Colorado, beautiful Colorado, dropped Sol off at auntie Melissa's, and headed for the Rockies. Ah-may-zing! We headed up I-70, turned off just after the Eisenhower Tunnel (a tunnel that goes right through a huge mountain) over to Keystone. There we took a 6 mile ride down Keystone mountain resort.

Such a fun trail! It was long and wore us out.

Then we headed down to Frisco area which is a lake town right next to Lake Dillon, a beautiful mountain reserviore. We camped right next to the lake. Asside from a sasquatch scare (which actually turned out to be two large elk) we had a peaceful night.

The next day we went up to Breckenridge. We LOVED Breckenridege. It was a beautiful mountain town. Dave and I ranked it higher than Jackson and Park City. We walked up and down mainstreet where they were having an art festival.

We then drove through the mountains to Aspen. The drive was incredible. They have over 50 "14er's" which I learned are mountain peaks that are higher than 14,000 feet. The road we drove summits between 2 "14er's". It was so high, and so intimidating, and so beautiful.

That night we found a cool little campsite in the mountains above Aspen. We were right next to this incredible little stream that had cut through the granite. See...

It look man made. It's not, its God made. Amazing.

We had such an incredible time getting back to nature, embracing our granola sides, mingling spirits with John Denver. We may move there some day. We hope so.

Thank goodness for Summer's Last Hurrah.

What a fun road trip! Kipp and I need to do that sometime, too. We lived in Basalt (about 15 minutes out of Aspen) for a little while (Kipp worked in Glenwood and I moved up there when Bode was born), and we drove I-70 ALL THE TIME but never made it to half of those towns... I would love to go to Breckenridge. It was beautiful up there but living costs were SO expensive... wonderful place to visit but I am glad to be back in Fort Collins. :)
